American/National Divisions
For 2009, USSSA Region 5 will introduce the "American" and "National" divisions. These divisions will be offered in each age group, as a way to further group teams for appropriate competition. These divisions will be used in larger events (i.e. MSP Monster Bash) as a way to divide teams into groups that will provide greater competitive balance. The "American" division will be considered the upper division when these are used.
As a general rule, teams with-in an age-group that are considered 2nd year will be asked to play "American". Teams that exhibit a higher skill level will also be placed in this American Division. Teams considered 1st year teams to an age-group (i.e. team playing 12U this season that played 10U last season) are allowed to participate in the "American Division." Conversely, your team will not be locked into one of these divisions for the entire season.
